When I visited Grand Naguri Forestry Road last time, I found the entrance to West Naguri
Forestry Road. It was easily expected that I would visit it with the same group soon. Besides
the fact that we invited the other bicycling veteran for the ride, we visited Naguri again on the
fourth of July.
We approached to West Naguri Forestry Road from the other side of entrance near Naguri
Primary School. The rough dirt ascending along the stream was steeper and it took time more
than we assumed. After we got on West Naguri on the ridge of mountains, the dirt turned to be
flat.
We often discussed the choice of appropriate tires and gear ratios assuming a longer dirt road
such as Nakatsugawa Forestry Road. In my opinion, an extremely low gear ratio lower than one
to one is meaningless, because it is easier and more efficient to push the bike than to ride on the
steep ascend that requires lower ratio than that. Still, it seemed attractive to assemble a large
cog such as 32T for my friend to keep a constant pace on the steep dirt road. Yes, I know. I
would like to lend 32T or 30T cog for his trial use.
We had a lunch break at the other end of road and turned back through the same route. It didn't
take much time to go descending and we soon arrived Sawarabi-no-yu hot spring. In the
evening, it was heavy raining in the most regions of South Saitama, but we were so lucky that
we just watched the thunderstorm from the inside of Seibu Ikebukuro Line train coach.
